We are currently seeking a Physician Assistant or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our team at the Eating Recovery Center in Plano, TX. As an integral member of our healthcare team, you will provide comprehensive care to individuals with eating disorders in an inpatient, partial hospitalization program (PHP), and residential setting. This is an opportunity to contribute to the treatment of eating disorders and primary mental health conditions, working closely with patients and their families to promote long-lasting mental wellness.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct a thorough assessment of patients' health status, medical history, and current needs.
- Perform physical examinations and utilize medical data to determine appropriate procedures and future care.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory tests.
- Establish diagnoses for common short-term or chronic health conditions.
- Provide primary prevention strategies and management of stable health problems.
- Prescribe medications, diet, supplies, prosthetic devices, and other home health aids according to clinical privileges.
- Perform procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
- Educate and counsel patients on preventive care, medical conditions, treatment plans, anticipated outcomes, and medication usage.
- Triage and respond to commonly encountered emergency care situations.
- Document all care provided and procedures performed in the medical record.
- Serve as a consultant to other specialties in areas of expertise.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in nursing and graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner program with specialization in the area of practice.
- Broad-based general medical knowledge.
- Psychiatric experience working with the psychiatric population as a Psych Tech or Floor Nurse is required.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to make decisive judgments with supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, seek consultation when needed, and take appropriate action.
- Knowledge of psychiatry and psychiatric drugs preferred.
- Unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license by the State Board of Nursing in the state of practice or compact privileges under the multi-state Nurse Licensure Compact agreement.
- Allied Health credentialing through the Medical Staff Services office is required.
- Prescriptive authority as appropriate, per medical staff service privileging process.
- Certification by the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) and licensing verification by the State Board of Nursing.
- Familiarity with the HSS, EPLS, and DEA systems is preferred.
