The Physician Assistant is responsible for practicing medicine, performing procedures, and providing support to the healthcare team under the supervision of a physician. Operates with latitude and collaborates with other health professionals to provide high quality, cost effective health care to patients, manage health care systems, and influence health care decision-making through expert clinical reasoning research and theory-based practice.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage patient health by conducting a comprehensive, full scope assessment of patient’s health status, history, and current needs.

Performs a physical examination, leverages medical data, and evaluates patient to determine procedures and future needs

Identifies, administers and/or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests; interprets test results for deviations from normal.

Establishes diagnoses for common short-term or chronic health conditions

Provides primary prevention strategies and management of stable health problems

Prescribes medications, diet, supplies, prosthetic devices and other home health aides or medication according to clinical privileges

Performs procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.

Educates and counsels patients in preventive care, medical conditions, plan of care, anticipated outcomes, and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs

Triage and respond to commonly encountered emergency care situations.

Documents in the medical record all care provided and/or procedures performed

Serves as consultant to other specialties in areas of expertise

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Physician Assistant Programs

Physician Assistant in Medicine, Licensed (MD)

Minimum of three years or relevant work experience, prior eating disorder experience is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communications
High level of analytical/problem solving skills
Ability to interact with and build relationships with staff, physicians, patients and families
Knowledge of Eating Disorder Patient population is highly desired
Strong math & science
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Physician Assistant certification by a national certifying body
