Welcome to Brightline! We are searching for a Total Rewards & Compliance Leader who will build and scale our national total rewards, compensation, performance management, and HR compliance strategy as we continue to grow. This leader will serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership, shaping how we design equitable compensation programs, define career paths, strengthen compliance programs, and enable a culture of continuous performance and development across the organization.
This is a highly visible and impactful role – ideal for a mission-driven people leader who thrives in ambiguity, excels at cross-functional collaboration, and is excited to architect systems that support organizational growth, engagement, fairness, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
Compliance Strategy & Roadmap
Ensure compensation, benefits, and people programs comply with federal, state, and multi-state regulatory requirements. Ensure alignment with multi-state compensation and benefits regulations.
Partner with Legal, Accounting and People Ops on audits, risk mitigation, and documentation. Develop and maintain compliant policies, frameworks, and governance practices. Strengthen internal controls and process consistency across states and entities.
Performance Management & Talent Development
Design and deliver performance management programs that foster continuous feedback, enable growth, and align with organizational objectives. Lead company-wide performance management cycles and enhancements.
Define role expectations and competency frameworks across functions. Partner with senior leaders on talent strategy and org design.
Organizational Design & Career Pathing
Serve as a strategic leader within our career path and org design workstreams, ensuring clarity, consistency, and scalability.
Design and refine career models and leveling frameworks. Align role expectations with business priorities and workforce planning. Partner with leaders on future-state org structures and headcount planning.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Partnership
Serve as an internal consultant and trusted thought partner across the organization. Collaborate with executive leadership across all teams and functions.
Translate insights into actionable recommendations and implementation plans. Facilitate workshops, alignment discussions, and leader engagement. Track decisions, outcomes, and program performance with operational rigor.
Data-Driven Analysis & Program Effectiveness
Ensure programs are grounded in strong analytics and decision-making rigor.
Oversee compensation, benefits, performance, and compliance analytics.
Ensure data integrity across systems and workflows.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an HR-related field and/or HR certification (CCP, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, etc.)
Demonstrated experience leading total rewards and/or performance programs within an organization
Knowledge of best practices related to benefits strategy and relationship with payroll processes/procedures
Experience managing HR or compensation-related compliance in multi-state environments
Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making capabilities
Experience leading high-impact initiatives integrated with business strategy
Proven ability to collaborate with executive-level stakeholders across functions
Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
Skilled facilitator across 1:1, small-group, and workshop environments
Experience in a fast-growing startup environment

Our strategy is based on robust market research, including external advisory specializing in national compensation, and thoughtful input from every level of our organization. It is a combination of a cash salary, equity, benefits, wellbeing, and opportunity. In compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the annual base salary range for applicants is $170,000-$200,000.
