As Candid’s second legal hire, this role offers an exceptional opportunity to own a wide range of legal functions (i.e. commercial, product counseling, and compliance) in a cutting-edge and highly regulated market. What you’ll be doing:
Lead the company’s legal negotiations and own day-to-day commercial contracting, including customer agreements, vendor, and other third-party contracts.
Play an active role in business decisionmaking on strategic deals.
Serve as the point person for regulatory and compliance questions involving federal and state healthcare and privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA, False Claims Act).
Serve as the primary legal partner to the Sales team to structure, negotiate, and close deals efficiently.
Research and manage outside counsel involving issues ranging from AI safety to intellectual property to employment.
Help operational teams implement company policies and legal advice.
Work closely with the General Counsel to design and implement scalable legal operations.
Advise leadership on corporate matters like fundraising and potential acquisitions.
Gain exposure across the full legal landscape at Candid (e.g., product counseling, AI/data use, IP, litigation, broader corporate matters) as your scope evolves.
Who you are:
You have a J.D. from a top law school and are a U.S.-qualified attorney with an active bar license.
2+ years experience practicing in-house or at a top law firm.
Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
Intellectually rigorous, highly self-directed, and motivated to dig into non-glamorous but business-critical legal work.
Excited by the opportunity to be one of two lawyers at a growing company and to help build legal operations from a very early stage.
Collaborative, pragmatic, and able to partner effectively with sales, operations, engineering, and leadership in a fast-moving environment.
Ideally have exposure to healthcare (U.S. regulations and HIPPA) or other highly regulated spaces, or are eager and able to learn this quickly.
Commercial/transactional experience preferred; comfort working on contracts and getting deals done.
Experience dealing with legal issues arising in software development, and the technical literacy to communicate efficiently with engineers, is preferred.
Location
Candid Health is an in-person team with offices in New York, San Francisco and Denver and employees are expected to be in office 4 days a week.
Pay Transparency
The estimated starting annual salary range for this position is $170,000-$210,000 USD. The listed range is a guideline from Pave data, and the actual base salary may be modified based on factors including job-related skills, experience/qualifications, interview performance, market data, etc. Total compensation for this position may also include equity, sales incentives (for sales roles), and employee benefits. Given Candid Health’s funding and size, we heavily value the potential upside from equity in our compensation package. Further note that Candid Health has minimal hierarchy and titles, but has broad ranges of experience represented within roles.
