Job Description
As our first full-time, in-house Head of HR, you will own the entire People function, from strategy to execution, across the entire employee lifecycle. Reporting to the CFO, this is a hands-on, detail-oriented “player-coach” role where you’ll work closely with the CEO and the rest of Leadership to design and implement people strategies that drive engagement, development, and performance. You will shape the future of our company by leading efforts in recruiting, onboarding, performance management, organizational design, and cultural development while also providing strategic and operational HR guidance to the Executive team.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruiting & Talent Acquisition
- Responsible for full-cycle recruiting, and partnering with hiring managers to continue growing the company over the next few years
- Build a scalable, and consistent, recruiting and interviewing process that emphasizes efficiency, diversity, and candidate experience
- Oversee the entire onboarding experience to ensure new hires feel welcomed and supported from day one, and provide an introduction on the history of Clara and a robust company overview
- Work with hiring managers and Executives to create standardized, impactful training processes for new hires across all operating departments
- Organizational Development & Culture
- Serve as a trusted advisor for Executives in helping to design organizational structures, layers, and reporting frameworks to support scalable and aligned growth
- Drive initiatives to improve organizational effectiveness, including team building, leadership development, and succession planning
- Act as a culture champion by fostering employee engagement and morale in a remote environment
- Create and implement scalable ongoing learning and development programs to upskill employees
- Build and implement listening and feedback mechanisms (e.g. office hours, surveys, focus groups) to understand and address employee needs
- Compensation & Performance Management
- Work with Executives to develop and administer competitive compensation and benefits packages
- Lead initiatives to align compensation, rewards, and recognition with company goals
- Refine, enhance and roll out performance reviews, individual goal-setting, and departmental objectives
- HR Strategy & Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day HR functions of onboarding, offboarding, employee data management, payroll support, benefits administration and compliance
- Develop and execute scalable HR policies, systems, and processes for a fully remote workforce
- Oversee and ensure the integrity and accuracy of HR systems (e.g. HRIS) and documentation (e.g. handbooks, policies, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
- Provide HR guidance to leadership on employee relations, retention, and workforce planning
Qualifications and Expertise
- 7+ years of HR experience, with 3+ years of HR leadership experience at a high-growth company. Preference for HR experience within a remote or hybrid company
- Experience with, and comfort working in, a fast-paced, dynamic growth stage company environment.
- Experience with recruiting, organizational design, training, compensation and performance management
- Able to toggle between tactical “hands-on” execution and strategic planning seamlessly
- Self-motivated individual who’s excited to be the first member of our HR team. Comfortable operating as an independent contributor, taking full ownership of the HR function while laying the groundwork for future growth.
- Track record of proven success in building HR infrastructure and programs from ground up
- Passionate about fostering an engaging, inclusive, and people-first company culture
- Tactful ability to collaborate with Executives and executives, influencing stakeholders at all levels
- Strong attention to detail
- Proven ability to multitask
- Robust experience with, and knowledge of, HR systems (e.g. BambooHR), payroll systems (e.g. ADP), and other -related “tech stack” (e.g. 3rd party 401k / benefit websites, etc.).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and G Suite
- High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- East Coast working hours (ideally located in NYC or Boston for occasional in person meetings)
