What we are looking for:
As CBMM Operations & Automation Lead, you will own the operational backbone of our cross-border payment desk while systematically eliminating manual processes through automation and tooling. You'll manage daily operations across multiple banking partners, liquidity providers, and payment corridors.
This is a hybrid role: 50% hands-on operations execution, 50% building automation solutions that improve the efficiency of the CBMM desk. You'll work at the intersection of operations, product, and engineering—translating operational pain points into technical requirements and delivered automation.
What would you be doing:
CBMM Operations Management (40%)
Daily Liquidity & FX Operations:
- Monitor FX monetizations across multiple FX brokers
- Track real-time spot rates and traded volumes across all currency pairs (USD/MXN, USD/COP, USD/PEN, etc.)
- Manage internal fund movements between international accounts
- Process loan disbursements and payments across various lending partners
- Handle and monitor manual FX conversions where processes are not automated yet
Payment Operations & Approvals:
- Approve and execute cross-border operations and overdraft payments
- Manage counterparty operations across providers
- Configure spreads and credit limits for client operations
- Confirm closed operations and approve pending transactions
- Manage onboarding process for clients and handle beneficiary creation for offshore third party payments
Client Account Management:
- Execute credit/debit adjustments for client accounts and portal balances
- Process client support cases arriving via email and Salesforce
- Provide manual FX rates when Cobre systems fail
- Update real-time balances as clients close operations or send funds
- Handle client operations with exceptions or new flows not yet standardized
Reconciliation & Reporting:
- Daily reconciliation of internal account balances and weekly balance reconciliation with the accounting team
- Reconcile/identify unmatched transactions
- Maintain tracking for flows outside Cobre systems
- Process manual operation uploads when Cobre systems fail or experience intermittency
2. Process Automation & Tool Development (50%)
Automation Strategy & Roadmap:
- Identify manual or repetitive processes and design automation strategies to streamline workflows, reduce human error, and improve scalability
- Build business cases for automation projects: time saved, error reduction, operational cost reduction, scalability unlocked
- Prioritize automation backlog based on operational pain, volume growth projections, transaction conversion impact, and technical feasibility
- Partner with Product and TechOps teams to ensure automation projects are resourced and delivered
- Continuously measure and improve the impact of automation initiatives, iterating based on performance data and business feedback
Technical Requirements & Product Development:
- Create epics and user stories for automation and operational tooling projects
- Participate in Vademecum, Grooming, Planning, and Review sessions for CBMM operational features (Scrum agile framework)
- Define acceptance criteria for automation tools from an operator's perspective
- Test and validate new automation features before production release
- Prototype and launch automation solutions that enhance operational intelligence—such as predictive funnel optimization, real-time anomaly detection, intelligent workflow orchestration, and automated reconciliation
Data-Driven Operational Excellence:
- Design and implement tools that eliminate manual intervention in operations and payments
- Optimize the transaction funnel through data analytics and automation of critical operational steps, reducing friction and increasing conversion success
- Develop predictive models and early warning systems to identify anomalous behaviors, prevent operational issues (stuck payments, reconciliation breaks, liquidity gaps), and improve decision-making
- Build advanced dashboards and reports for real-time monitoring of: broker volumes by partner, spread performance, reconciliation status, pending approvals, liquidity positions, transaction success rates, operational KPIs
- Create alerts and monitoring for operational exceptions requiring human intervention
- Design data visualizations and reports to provide strategic insights to stakeholders (Finance, Product, Sales, Engineering leadership)
- Document standard operating procedures as foundation for future automation
Automation Tools & Technologies:
- Leverage workflow automation tools and frameworks (Python scripting, APIs, low-code platforms, Airflow, AppScript) to build operational solutions
- Work with engineering to implement scalable automation systems across CBMM operations
- Build SQL-based queries and data pipelines to support operational analytics and reporting
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%)
Product & Engineering Partnership:
- Act as voice of operations in product development: "Here's what breaks, here's what's manual, here's what doesn't scale"
- Translate operational requirements into technical specifications
- Serve as subject matter expert on CBMM operations, banking rails, and FX workflows for Product and Engineering teams
- Validate that new product features work in real operational scenarios before client launch
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement scalable automation tools and systems across business units
Finance & Accounting Coordination:
- Lead weekly reconciliation meetings with the accounting team
- Provide operational data for finance calculations and reporting
- Ensure alignment between operational records and financial books
Sales & Client Support:
- Work closely with Customer Success and Sales to understand customer needs and build data-driven, automated solutions that enhance their experience
- Resolve commercial issues requiring operational intervention
- Handle complex client flows and exceptions until standardized for the broader team
- Provide operational insights to inform sales on product capabilities and limitations
Broker & Provider Management:
- Respond to information requests from brokers and other liquidity providers
- Prepare documentation and data for partner negotiations and onboarding
- Coordinate with providers on operational issues
What do you need:
FX Operations Expertise:
- 3-5+ years in cross-border payment operations, FX trading desk operations, or fintech operations
- Hands-on experience executing FX conversions across multiple currency pairs and banking partners
- Deep familiarity with liquidity management and multi-currency reconciliation
- Experience with Latin American payment rails (SPEI, SPID, TEF, ACH Colombia) and banking systems
- Understanding of broker operations and central bank regulations (Banco de la República, Banxico, BCRP)
- Track record managing daily volumes of $10M+ and working with multiple banking partners simultaneously
Process Automation & Technical Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with process automation tools and frameworks (Python scripting, APIs, workflow automation tools like Zapier, Make, Airflow, etc.)
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for building automation solutions and data analysis
- Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Streamlit, Sigma, or similar) to build operational dashboards
- Proven ability to identify manual processes and translate them into automation requirements
- Experience writing technical requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for engineering teams
- Comfortable with APIs, system integrations, and understanding system architecture at a conceptual level
- Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis)
- Experience with payment operations platforms, treasury management systems, or building internal operational tools
- Familiarity with agile development processes (epics, user stories, sprint planning, grooming sessions)

- Preferred Qualifications
Technical & Product Skills:
- Experience building algorithms around financial markets, time-driven forecasting, machine learning or AI solutions, and optimization processes.
- Familiarity with ledger systems, double-entry accounting, and transaction reconciliation logic
- Background in fintech, neobank, payment processor operations, or high-growth companies
- Experience in startups or high-growth environments
Domain Expertise:
- Knowledge of FX derivatives (forwards, swaps, options) and hedging strategies
- Experience with stablecoins, crypto on/off-ramps
- Understanding of AML/KYC requirements and how they impact operational workflows
Language & Communication:
- Native Spanish speaker with professional English proficiency
- Ability to explain complex operational issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong written communication for documentation, requirements, and incident reports
