SUMMARY
Curana Health is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our Health Plan Finance Team. Curana Health is a young, fast-growing business with a proven business model. The Senior Accountant position reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for assisting in completing monthly financials and account reconciliations for a portfolio of insurance plans. We are looking for a driven self-starter looking to have an instant and ongoing impact on the development of accounting processes through exposure to a variety of complex accounting matters that are native to a high growth business.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assisting with preparation of monthly accounting close process.
- Preparing and posting journal entries to the general ledger including revenue and expense accruals as well as amortizations and medical expense reserves.
- Prepare account and bank reconciliations on a timely basis.
- Insurance Plan expense coding review.
- Review quarterly/annual NAIC statements compliant with SSAP regulations.
- Ensure timely submission of all quarterly state required filings and assist with financials questions from state regulatory agencies.
- Continuously improve processes through data automation and implementing procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist with coordination of annual reviews with external auditors and actuaries through development of accounting analyses, reconciliations and related materials.
- Collaborate with other departments to support overall business goals and objectives.
- Additional responsible for accounting process areas including:
- Monthly capitation reconciliations
- IBNR reserve estimates and claims reconciliations
- Ensure all accounting is in accordance with contractual agreements
- Creation of financial packages
- Ad Hoc tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Health Plan and/or Healthcare experience is preferred but not required.
- At least 2 years of professional accounting experience.
- Proficiency in accounting software Sage Intacct and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Preference for remote work.
- High level of integrity and strong attention to detail.
- End-to-end process ownership to support finance and business partners.
- Execute judgments to keep projects moving and ensure the right decisions are reached to close the books each month.
- Ability to escalating risks and issues as necessary to leadership to maintain efficient and timely process execution.
- Ability to identify process improvement and automation opportunities to drive positive change.
- Understanding of GAAP and/or SSAP
- Continuous improvement mindset.
