SUMMARY
The Corporate & Regulatory Paralegal will assist the Legal Department attorneys in meeting the department’s overall goal of providing timely, actionable and responsive legal services to the Company’s board of directors, executive leadership, management and other stakeholders. This role provides direct support to attorneys responsible for mergers/acquisitions, contracting, regulatory compliance, litigation and risk management support, and privacy/data security. The Corporate & Regulatory Paralegal will work closely with attorneys in the Company’s medical group division to support acquired and organic growth and stay abreast of emerging regulatory issues. The Corporate & Regulatory Paralegal will also lead initiatives to streamline and improve the Legal Department’s delivery of legal counsel to the organization, as assigned by Legal Department attorneys.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain the Company’s contract templates, including assistance implementing changes to comply with legislation/regulations and business changes.
- Monitor and research applicable state and federal laws, regulations and agency guidance.
- Maintain and update summaries of key state and federal legal and regulatory issues.
- Draft contracts, correspondence and other documents.
- Assist with medical group licensure, compliance, and responding to regulatory inquiries.
- Assist with litigation and risk management.
- Provide support related for mergers/acquisitions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Superb attention to detail and organization skills, with the ability to prioritize, plan and appropriately approach workload and assigned projects to ensure completion.
- Skill in providing instruction and guidance, and maintaining effective working relationships with associates and coworkers.
- Excellent skills in basic computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated expertise in legal research, specifically in Westlaw.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and management.
- Knowledge of proper chain of communication and company administration practices.
- Analytical, creative and evaluative skills.
- Ability to assess operational conditions and processes and make recommendations to maintain/improve efficiency.
- Ability to take initiative and to exercise independent judgment; decision-making and problem-solving expertise.
- Effective and concise documentation skills.
EDUCATION
High school/GED required. Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in paralegal studies preferred.
EXPERIENCE
At least five (5) years experience as a paralegal in a corporate environment, preferably in the health care industry.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Paralegal certification a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret contracts, laws and regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers and employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Must possess strong problem identification and resolution skills. Must be well organized, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and possess good judgment and planning skills. Ability to interpret a variety of data furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to manage complications involving several variables in standardized situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent telephone contact with clients, staff, vendors, consultants, and management. Position often requires some flexibility in working hours. Must be able to work efficiently under high pressure and effectively resolve conflicts as they arise.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires sitting for long periods. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires moderate typing skills and sufficient manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier and such other office equipment as necessary. Normal or corrected vision to acceptable levels for common office work. Hearing must be in the acceptable range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for variable periods of time.
