Summary

We are looking for a talented, experienced individual to join our Data Operations team and lead the company’s migration from SQL Server to DataBricks.

The DBA is a “hands on” position requiring the candidate to be able to work with applicable technologies to develop and maintain databases across the organization, while ensuring high levels of data availability. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual who performs productively in a fast-paced work environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

About the team:

The department is comprised of database administrators and data engineers focused on modernizing our data platform and empowering our business stakeholders to make strategic decisions. Teaching, mentoring, and developing are part of our culture. The goal is to develop a balanced team with expertise in modern data solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Modernize the data warehouse environment by migrating the platform to Azure Databricks
  • Architect, design, install, create architecture documentation, and perform operational support for all database environments
  • Determine appropriate indexing for new stored procedures and poorly performing queries
  • Modify/Create/maintain and optimize ETL processes within SSIS, ADF, and DBT
  • Perform capacity planning required to create and maintain the databases
  • Implement security for all the Databases
  • Manage Delta Lake architecture, versioning, and time travel
  • Monitor performance and health of data pipelines and cluster with tools like Datadog, Azure Monitor, or Grafana
  • Provide support for multiple applications using Microsoft SQL RDBMS Platforms, SQL Server 2012, 2016, SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Integration Services, High Availability (Clustering & Replication) as well as our new DataBricks platform
  • Perform Tuning and Optimization; troubleshoots and resolves database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues, index management and statistics. All aimed at ideal business support while limiting after hours support incidents
  • Provide application development support – DDL implementation and maintenance, code review Includes DDL/Schema changes implementation in development, test, and production systems
  • Perform and/or coordinate installations, upgrades, and patches to Microsoft SQL products and tools
  • Provide On-call Support during off- hours for Production, test and development DBs based on criticality

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years working with SQL Server, DataBricks, and related technologies
  • Strong proficiency in development of T-SQL Script writing, testing, and debug in large software application systems
  • Can explain in complete detail the tradeoffs between a common table expression, temp table, table variables in query performance
  • Can explain in complete detail the life of a transaction as it pertains to SQL Server and DataBricks
  • Understands Memory Optimized tables
  • Demonstrated ability to create SSIS Projects, familiarity with Azure Data Factory, and DBT
  • Experience with T-SQL, MDX, DAX, Python, PySpark
  • Should be able to Read C# code and understand object-oriented principles
  • Familiarity with Databricks Unity Catalog
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting
  • Has familiarity with Microsoft Azure and provisioning of SQL Server Databases
  • Understanding of HIPAA, SOC 2, or other compliance frameworks relevant to healthcare data
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
