Job Description
We are looking for an IT Engineer who is passionate about leveraging coding and automation to build a highly efficient and scalable IT environment, while increasing employee productivity. You'll be playing a key role in managing our IT environment, from user access and communication tools to network connectivity. This isn't just about fixing problems; it's about building solutions that make our IT operations smarter and faster.
What you’ll be doing
- Scale IT with Code & Automation:
- Be a key driver in identifying and automating repetitive IT tasks using Python scripting or other tooling.
- Develop and implement scripts to streamline user onboarding/offboarding, software deployments, system configurations, and more.
- Proactively seek opportunities to leverage automation to improve IT workflows, reduce manual effort, and enhance overall system reliability and security.
- Contribute to building a robust, automated IT infrastructure that can grow with our company.
- General IT Support:
- Be a friendly face for our employees, providing quick and helpful IT support.
- Keep track of our IT equipment.
- Mac Management:
- Set up, configure, and maintain macOS devices (laptops, desktops) using our Mobile Device Management (MDM) tools.
- Install and update software on Macs, ensuring everything is secure and current, often through automated processes.
- Troubleshoot and fix hardware and software issues on Mac computers.
- Identity & Access:
- Help manage our IDP, which handles who has access to what. This includes setting up secure logins and automating user provisioning/deprovisioning where possible.
- Ensure everyone can easily and securely access the apps they need.
- Communication:
- Support our Zoom environment for video calls and meetings, including setting up accounts and helping users.
- Ensure our virtual meetings run smoothly and efficiently.
- Office Networking:
- Assist with setting up and maintaining our office network, including Wi-Fi, switches, and basic firewall settings.
- Help us keep an eye on network performance and fix any connectivity problems.
What we are looking for
- Proficiency in Python for scripting and automation. You should be comfortable writing scripts to solve IT problems and eager to use code to improve efficiency.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a knack for figuring things out.
- Great communication skills, able to explain tech stuff clearly to anyone.
- A positive attitude, a strong desire to learn new technologies, and a passion for automation.
Bonus skills
- A portfolio or examples of automation projects you've worked on.
- Any relevant certifications (like Apple certifications, or basic networking certifications).
- Experience with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
- experience in an IT support or engineering role, especially with macOS.
- Some experience with MDM solutions for macOS (like Jamf Pro or Kandji).
- Basic understanding and some identity systems.
- Familiarity with supporting Zoom or other video conferencing tools.
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts (like how Wi-Fi works) and some experience with network hardware (Ubiquiti is a plus!).

- At Highnote we have built a total rewards philosophy that includes fair, equitable, geo-based compensation that is performance and potential based. Our compensation packages are competitive based on robust market research and are a combination of a cash salary, equity, and benefits. In compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the annual salary range for applicants is $90,000-130,000.
Please note that positions located in San Francisco are hybrid and include core working days of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office. We provide flexible work options based on distance from our downtown SF office. Highnote believes in the power of face-to-face, personal connection. As a result, we prioritize in-person candidates.
