ABOUT THE JOB
Corporate Counsel will join Marathon Health’s collegial and highly effective contracts team, supporting Marathon Health and its affiliates. Corporate Counsel will report to VP of Legal, Corporate, and is a motivated, solutions-oriented attorney passionate about our mission to improve health care in the United States.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Corporate Counsel will be a key partner to the business. Corporate Counsel will apply a deep understanding of the company’s strategy and operations to the negotiation of contracts with clients, vendors and other external stakeholders in a manner that enables the success of our company while effectively managing the company’s business and legal risks.
Corporate Counsel will work closely with many of the teams across Marathon Health, including but not limited to Growth, Operations, Clinical, IT, Project Management and People Experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Draft and negotiate a broad range of agreements, including with clients, brokers, and vendors
- Collaborate with business teams on the use of contract templates, relevant legal issues, processes, and good contracting practices.
- Contribute to the legal team’s contract templates and contracting playbooks
- Participate in cross-functional projects to support new sales strategies and product launches
- Advise business teams on responses to requests for proposals
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
JD or LLM from a recognized U.S. law school and current license to practice in the United States plus 4+ years of law firm and/or in-house legal work experience.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to address complex or ambiguous issues in an ethical and professional manner, handle high volumes of work, multi-task, re-prioritize based on evolving business needs.
- Outstanding analytical, consulting, drafting, and negotiation skills with the ability to make well-reasoned legal and business judgment.
DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
- The ideal candidate is a transactional attorney with experience and confidence in negotiating a wide variety of contracts, and a bias towards effective problem-solving. Deep understanding of professional services agreements and ability to close deals in a timely manner while minimizing risk with minimal supervision is required.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: health care, employee benefits, commercial leasing, private company governance, employment law, state and municipal public contracting, SaaS agreements and licensing.
- Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, including the ability to explain complex information to non-lawyers.
- Ability to build strong relationships and earn the confidence of the business.
- Interest in healthcare law and a commitment to Marathon’s mission.
Pay Range: $100,000 - $130,000/yr
The actual offer may vary dependent upon geographic location and the candidate’s years of experience and/or skill level. This position is also eligible for an annual incentive.
