ABOUT THE JOB

The Payroll Tax Analyst plays a key role in performing a wide range of analytical, reporting, and taxation tasks to support the Payroll department. This position demands exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, a commitment to meeting deadlines, and a focus on providing outstanding service. The Payroll Tax Analyst assists in the preparation and processing of payrolls in compliance with regulations for all company entities while working collaboratively with the Payroll Manager, internal Payroll team, HR, and Accounting departments. The Payroll Tax Analyst will also manage setting up applicable state and local accounts as needed for payroll processing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the preparation, process, calculation, and reconciliation of bi-weekly, multi-state payroll for 3000+ employees ensuring accurate and timely paychecks
  • Ensure payroll data is reported correctly to federal, state, and local agencies, maintaining compliance with payroll laws and tax regulations
  • Support departmental efforts by collaborating with the Payroll Manager on research and response to payroll inquiries, including taxes and tax notices, deductions, wage withholding, garnishments, and other applicable payroll data
  • Prepare and file payroll tax returns, including federal, state, and local tax filings
  • Reconcile payroll tax accounts and ensure discrepancies are resolved promptly
  • Act as a liaison with government agencies regarding payroll tax matters
  • Register for new state and local tax jurisdictions as well as closeout old jurisdictions as needed
  • Compile payroll data and create payroll reports as needed
  • Participate in payroll year-end functions including reconciliation, processing of W-2 and W-2C forms and other tax forms as needed
  • Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality teammate support
  • Power of Attorney processing including TPA access for vendor(s)
  • Provide backup to Workday Administrators and Payroll Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field and 5+ years of experience in multi-state, multi-entity payroll processing or equivalent combination of education and experience

Additional skills/qualifications as follows:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Workday and ADP required
  • Ability to demonstrate experience and proficiency in payroll and tax laws, compliance, and process
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance
  • Knowledge of payroll-related deductions and their impact on payroll and tax (401k, GTL, FSA, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Advanced Excel skills required

Pay Range: $75,000 - $85,000/yr

The actual offer may vary dependent upon geographic location and the candidate’s years of experience and/or skill level.
