ABOUT THE JOB

Manages medical aspects of client company case management programs including workers’ compensation and disability. Case Manager oversees a system that provides prompt, high quality injury care, specialty referrals and facilitated recovery and return to gainful employment for the employees sustaining work related injuries and personal health issues. Assists Medical Director and Clinical Operations Director in preparation and analysis of statistical reports on client company Case Management programs. Identifies trends in case management and quantifies effectiveness and non-effectiveness of interventions. Work collaboratively with the client company Safety and HR teams to monitor the effect of loss control/loss prevention on workers’ compensation losses. Assists in claims adjudication by providing relevant medical information.

This is a fully on-site position, Monday through Friday.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide prompt, appropriate clinical care to all client employees in conformance with company policies, clinical protocols, state regulations and ethical standards.
  • Works closely with management to ensure that all health and safety standards are met to safeguard the health and wellbeing of employees. Meets regularly to disposition OSHA cases.
  • Provides medical case management and acute injury management for injured workers in conjunction with medical providers, supervisors, and worker’s compensation management team.
  • Serves as liaison between medical providers and injured workers for coordination of care to expedite appropriate medical treatment and communications with worker’s compensation management team.
  • Proactively manages all active claims to assess progress/response to treatment, prevent lapses or delays in treatment, obtain regular updates on work status and facilitates injured worker’s return to work.
  • Coordinates and tracks alternate assignments for injured workers within their capabilities.
  • Monitors employee work-related illness and injury trends and assesses, develops, and implements strategies to prevent work-acquired injury or illness and expedite return to work.
  • Documents employee accidents and corresponding communication in Workers Compensation claims system.
  • Document all clinical care and case management activities provided in a legible, professional, thorough, and timely manner.
  • Provide case management for work-related conditions for the purpose of reducing illness and absenteeism.
  • Keeps up with a manual or automated tracking system to identify associates off work and on restricted duty with their return-to-work expectations.
  • Assist in the coordination of second opinions for employees absent due to workers compensation or disability, as necessary in adherence with company protocols.
  • Assist in providing referrals for client employees who need the attention of a primary care physician or specialist.
  • Provide appropriate follow up communication with Medical Director, Clinical Operations Director, and client.
  • Provide general medical advice to the client Human Resources and Safety/Risk Management.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate problem resolution and follow-up to patients as required.
  • Conducts appropriate laboratory tests and quality control procedures.
  • Identifies emergency situations and provides care within the legal scope of practice.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment. Follows infection control procedures.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidential patient information.
  • Complete understanding of clinic and case management procedures/protocols/policies, occupational injury management and workers’ compensation, generally acquired through 5+ years of on-the-job experience.
  • Requires clinical expertise to assess cases and evaluate return to work. Requires exceptional analytical ability to develop procedures and protocols and generate and interpret an array of statistical reports.
  • Participates in the development of policies regarding health, safety, and workers compensation issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree (BSN) preferred with at least three years’ experience as a nurse in an emergency room, occupational health clinic or other ambulatory care clinic. Must have current LPN or RN license in state of practice. Certification in Occupational Health Nursing or Emergency Nursing, preferred. Certified Case Manager (CCM) certification strongly preferred or willing to obtain within six (6) months of employment. Knowledge of workplace health and safety concepts and OSHA regulations preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft office products including Outlook, Word & Excel.

Pay Range: $70,000 - $90,000/yr
