About the Job

The Legal Specialist will be a key partner to the Compliance team. With limited supervision, this role will support Marathon’s compliance, privacy, and regulatory programs by providing consistent, organized, and reliable operational support across a fast-paced, highly regulated healthcare environment.

This role will work closely with Legal and cross-functional partners to manage compliance governance activities, regulatory and business licensing requirements, policy lifecycle management, privacy documentation, auditing and monitoring support, and related legal and risk coordination.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support Compliance, Privacy, and Governance, Risk & Compliance Committee (GRC) governance activities, including coordinating meetings, preparing and maintaining agendas, drafting and distributing meeting minutes, tracking action items, and maintaining complete and organized records for compliance-related committees.
  • Manage and track business licenses, registrations, certifications, and other regulatory obligations, including maintaining compliance calendars, monitoring deadlines, coordinating renewals, and ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Support policy lifecycle management across Compliance, including coordinating updates, reviews, approvals, version control, attestations, and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
  • Assist with privacy and compliance documentation, including policies, procedures, notices, and related records, in coordination with Compliance and Legal leadership.
  • Support compliance investigations, cases, and issue management by organizing documentation, tracking status, following up on open items, and ensuring timely and appropriate closure.
  • Assist with auditing and monitoring activities, including maintaining audit trackers, gathering and organizing supporting documentation, tracking remediation efforts, and supporting regulatory readiness initiatives (including HITRUST).
  • Support litigation tracking and insurance-related matters, including maintaining claim and litigation trackers, organizing correspondence and documentation, coordinating with Legal and Risk as needed, and assisting with insurance renewals and reporting.
  • Coordinate vendor and third-party compliance workflows, including intake, documentation tracking, follow-through, and coordination with Legal, Privacy, and Operations teams.
  • Maintain compliance and privacy knowledge management resources, templates, trackers, and shared repositories to ensure information is easily accessible and current.
  • Respond to internal questions regarding compliance and privacy processes, documentation, status tracking, and governance workflows.
  • Support special projects related to compliance, privacy, regulatory readiness, and program improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of paralegal, compliance, privacy, or regulatory support experience, preferably in healthcare or another highly regulated environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience supporting in-house compliance, privacy, legal operations, regulatory, litigation, or risk management functions is preferred.

Desired Attributes

  • Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint) and Adobe Acrobat; experience with document management systems or compliance platforms preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear, well-organized documentation.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through consistently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across Compliance, Legal, Privacy, ISS, Operations, and other internal teams.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment with evolving regulatory, litigation, and business needs.
  • Interest in healthcare compliance and privacy, with a commitment to Marathon’s mission and values.

Pay Range: $80,000 - $115,000/yr

The actual offer may vary dependent upon geographic location and the candidate’s years of experience and/or skill level.
