Key Function:
As Scientific Director, you are responsible for providing leadership across digital, branded communications, and learning and development projects. You will support the healthcare communications team and Creative and Digital Teams in optimising the engagement experience across scientific projects, helping clients to reach their customers and consumers in creative, innovative, and unforgettable ways. You will play an integral part in overseeing projects from inception through to delivery and will ensure that the client’s objectives are always met.
Key Responsibilities:
Client
- Partner with client to define and optimize the scientific engagement strategy through healthcare communications materials and programmes
- Lead onsite client meeting activities
- Build and consolidate key client relationships and proactively support client sand identify opportunities for organic account growth
Financial
- Proactively plan resourcing needs across existing and new accounts, including defining requirements for scientific team involvement and liaising with digital and creative teams
Management
- Manage writers and editors, overseeing and guiding the production of clear, concise and accurate copy and accuracy and scientific integrity of all editorial projects
- Provide scientific, strategic, and creative expertise internally and externally
- Ensure that the materials produced are suitable for the target audience and that they meet or exceed client expectations
- Work closely with other functions around the business (e.g., creative, client services) in the delivery of specific projects as appropriate
- Manage short- and long-term resource planning, and the outsourcing of work to freelancers as appropriate
- Develop and ensure consistent application of internal editorial processes
- Train and develop medical writing team and manage regular performance and well-being reviews
- Proactively provide recommendations for process improvement and ensure that all members of the medical writing team follow internal processes
- Professional liaison with pharmaceutical industry key contacts, healthcare professionals and other external service providers
- Maintain awareness of industry changes and engagement best practices and disseminate information to scientific team members
New Business
- Lead scientific and creative input into pitch development, ensuring appropriate involvement of other functions and team members (creative, digital, client services)
- Proactively identify opportunities for organic account growth
Other Responsibilities
- Undertake any duties as may be required from time to time that can reasonably be regarded as within the remit of the post
- Aware of and conform to legal requirements in all activities, both internal and external. Implicit in this is that all managers and employees conform to the appropriate standards in terms of Health and Safety and Information Security requirements but also to the highest standards of business ethics
Experience
- Educated to degree level or higher in a biomedical science
- 7+ years of experience in a healthcare/pharma industry including relevant agency and medical communications experience at a senior level
- Experience managing content staff
- Experience working on symposia, webinars, standalone meetings, publications management, advisory boards, KOL liaison, HCP educational materials, scientific narratives/gap analyses, etc
