Facilities and Equipment Technician II
Precision for Medicine
Position Summary:
The Facilities and Equipment Technician II is responsible for diagnosing and repairing problematic equipment, performing simple repairs, coordinating vendor services, and supporting facility safety and compliance programs. This role ensures the smooth operation of laboratory and facility systems through supporting the preventive maintenance program, vendor management, and adherence to safety protocols.
Vendor management
- Diagnose and repair problematic equipment as appropriate
- Call and schedule repair
- Work with lab staff as appropriate in achieving effective and efficient operation
- Serve as the primary point of contact with property management and service vendors
- Troubleshoot issues with vendors over the phone
- Conduct walkthroughs with vendors and explain issues
- Follow up on service calls and additional work as needed
- Request quotes and purchase orders for services
- Check in and check out vendors on-site
- Receive, review, and quality check service reports; upload to Asset Management System
- Receive and review invoices; resolve discrepancies with vendors
- Guide and train third-party cleaning crews; manage supply requests (faucets, soaps, paper towels, etc.)
Safety and Compliance
- Plan and execute the annual fire drill in coordination with supervisor, global EHS representative and local management
- Perform monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and safety showers
- Support hazardous waste activities
- Participate in safety committee meetings and follow-up actions
- Work with EHS to train team members on safety topics and emergency procedures
Equipment Maintenance and Repair
- Diagnose and repair lab equipment as appropriate
- Perform or coordinate preventive maintenance and inspections on general use laboratory equipment.
- Consists of a 15-point inspection of critical systems, including but not limited to oil level, compressor operation, electrical demand, temperature sensor calibration, etc.
- Change alarm batteries on mechanical freezers as appropriate
- Clean all air filters and compressor compartments to ensure they are free of dust and debris
- Perform all inspections of refrigeration equipment
- Perform performance qualifications of all refrigeration equipment
- Maintain and repair plumbing, electrical, and lighting
- Perform painting as required
- Install and maintain low-voltage wiring, including for Central Monitoring Systems
- Participate in the Equipment Validation Program (IQ/OQ/PQ) related to lab equipment
- Maintain accurate documentation of activities using Asset Management System
- Perform unique validations on laboratory equipment as requested
Miscellaneous
- Respond to equipment failures during and after business hours
- Employee is required to participate in Emergency on call list and must report to designated location, in the event of an emergency, within 60 minutes of notification, when on call. All employees are on call in the event of a major emergency and are expected to immediately report to the facility to the best of their ability. Current contact information and changes to phone numbers must be communicated to ensure the Emergency on call list is properly maintained remain current on emerging technologies related to facilities and lab equipment
- Carry out other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3–6 years of experience in mechanical repair or formal training in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR)
Preferred:
- Project management experience
- DOT-certified medical exam card (49 CFR 391.41–391.49)
- EPA certification to handle refrigerants
- Ability to install low voltage electrical wiring
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Must be able to read, write, speak fluently and comprehend the English language
