We are seeking a Power BI Developer to help build and scale enterprise Trial Analytics across a global clinical trial portfolio. This role sits within the business (Project Finance & Analytics) and partners closely with Data Engineering and Corporate IT to deliver decision-ready insights for clinical operations, finance, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate blends strong technical BI capabilities with an ability to work closely with clinical operations, project finance, and project management stakeholders to deliver actionable insights.

This position works at the center of operational and financial transparency—supporting CTMS‑derived trial metrics, ERP‑based financial performance, and cross‑functional KPI reporting. The focus of this role is semantic modeling, KPI standardization, and analytics performance, not source system ingestion or ad hoc report building.

Business Analysis & Collaboration

  • Work closely with Trial Operations, Project Finance, and Project Managers to gather reporting requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Serve as the subject‑matter expert on metric definitions, business rules, and reporting logic
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on trend visualization and dashboard usage

Power BI & Semantic Modeling

  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI semantic models, including DAX measures, KPIs, hierarchies, and table relationships
  • Build reusable, governed DAX measures aligned to approved KPI definitions
  • Implement calculation groups, time intelligence, and standardized metric logic
  • Optimize data models for performance, scalability, and refresh efficiency
  • Ensure all metrics reflect correct business logic, including enrollment rules, milestone definitions, revenue calculations, and project financial structures

Trial & Portfolio Analytics

  • Translate business-defined KPIs into scalable analytical logic
  • Support analytics across:
    • Trial execution & delivery
    • Portfolio health and risk
    • Financial performance and margin
    • Milestones, enrollment, and operational cadence
  • Ensure metrics roll consistently from trial → program → portfolio

Governance & Collaboration

  • Partner with Data Engineering to ensure analytics-ready data structures and consistent grain, validate dataset readiness, and report on data discrepancies
  • Align with Corporate IT / Data Warehouse teams on data contracts and refresh schedules
  • Validate metrics with Finance, Clinical Operations, and Business Operations stakeholders
  • Document datasets, measures, and assumptions for transparency and reuse
  • Implement and maintain row-level security (RLS), workspace permissions, and dataset access controls
  • Manage versioning, QA testing, and deployment of dashboards across environments
  • Ensure alignment with internal data governance and compliance standards

Enablement & Scale

  • Develop certified datasets to enable self-service analytics across the organization
  • Reduce ad hoc reporting by standardizing core analytics views
  • Contribute to analytics standards and best practices across the business
  • Provide training, documentation, and support to functional teams using Power BI dashboards
  • Promote BI best practices across teams and encourage responsible data consumption

What This Role Is Not

  • Not responsible for ETL or source system ingestion
  • Not a report factory for one-off trial requests

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Intelligence, Finance, or related field (or equivalent hands‑on experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience developing enterprise Power BI solutions
  • Strong expertise in:
    • DAX, including complex measures and time intelligence
    • Power BI semantic modeling
    • Power Query (M) for light transformations
    • SQL (for validation and analysis)
  • Strong experience with data modeling (star schema, grain management)
  • Experience building analytics for executive and operational audiences
  • Experience working with operational or financial datasets
  • Ability to translate business logic into clear analytical models
  • Knowledge of data visualization best practices and optimization techniques

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in clinical trials, CROs, or life sciences and with clinical trial operations datasets (CTMS, enrollment tracking, subject visit structures)
  • Exposure to financial or operational analytics, including ERP financial datasets (actuals, budgets, revenue recognition, WIP, invoicing)
  • Experience working with centralized data warehouse teams
  • Familiarity with Power BI performance tuning and capacity considerations
  • Familiarity with Azure data tools and the Power BI Service (workspaces, gateways, datasets)
  • Experience working within professional services, life sciences, or project‑based environments

Key Competencies

  • Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Ability to translate business questions into scalable analytical solutions
  • Collaborative mindset with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple dashboards and competing deadlines
  • Comfortable working cross‑functionally with Data Engineering, Finance, and Trial Operations
