Position Overview:

Answer phones, greet patients and visitors, coordinate clinic appointments and visits, and provide a variety of clinical and clerical services. Perform patient care activities according to established guidelines, under the direction of the Clinical Operations Manager.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTIES (Essential Job Functions)

  • Greet and direct outpatients, visitors, and families in a pleasant and caring manner to waiting areas, exam rooms and ancillary departments.
  • Perform venipuncture (if trained) and finger sticks on lab patients for processing.
  • Assist with scheduling of TeleMed or Doxyme appointments and provide patient instruction.
  • Assist Clinic physician and/or physician’s staff with any procedures (i.e., vital signs, weight, positioning, disrobing, etc.).
  • Review current medications with patient and document in computer.
  • Communicate any physician delays to patient and monitor patient until physician enters exam room.
  • Perform EKG on patients as ordered by physician.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.
  • Refer questions/concerns of patients/families/visitors to the Clinic physician, physician’s staff or Supervisor.
  • Obtain and document patient information as per clinic physician’s protocol.
  • Know incoming physician schedules to organize appointments and issue appropriate memos regarding incoming physician visits.
  • Keep clinic staff informed of pertinent information regarding patients.
  • Clean up exam room after each patient and sanitize exam room at the end of each day.
  • Accept responsibility and be accountable for own performance. Accept constructive criticism in a positive manner.
  • Accept direction from nursing staff in a positive and professional manner.
  • Assure competency is maintained to provide care and services for all ages. Competency will be measured by documented attendance at related in-services, pre- and post-tests kept on file, and direct observation of the clinical supervisor, and will be documented on the annual performance evaluation.
  • Assure compliance with the requirements of licensing boards. Maintain knowledge of department and medical center activities, policies and procedures, and federal and state regulations.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Adhere to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Make referrals for providers as requested, with help and guidance from the provider’s nurse. Provide proper documentation of referrals.
  • No use of non-approved abbreviations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
    General:
  • Maintain established policies and procedures, objectives, licensing requirements, QA programs and safety standards
  • Attend all required meetings and education sessions within scheduled timeframe.
  • Annual mandatory safety review
  • Annual HIPAA education
  • Annual CEU requirements (if applicable)
  • All appropriate licenses and certifications (if applicable) are up-to-date
  • Maintain BLS certification
  • Observe scheduled hours. Report to work on time. Respond positively to requests for unscheduled work. Take initiative to locate coverage for requested days off.

Education:

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Medical Assistant certification.

Experience:

Minimum: One year in a healthcare setting.

Preferred: Two years in a healthcare setting, phlebotomy experience.

Licensure/Certification: Medical Assistant and/or Nurse Aide certification from the state of Kansas preferred. BLS certification within 1 month of hire.

Skills/Knowledge/Ability: Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with others. General comprehension of fax machine, copier, computer functions, instruments for taking vital signs, and secretarial skills. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to learn and maintain use of medical terminology. Assure competency is maintained to provide care and services for all ages. Competency will be measured and documented on the annual performance evaluation.
