US Heart and Vascular is in search of a Cardiac Exercise Technician to join our float team at HeartPlace Dallas, TX
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares stress rooms and equipment for procedures, assists with procedures performed on patients under the direction of a physician according to department protocol.
- Cleans and disinfects instruments and workplace environment to present a sterile environment for each patient
- Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials
- Prepares patient charts and required documentation, to include Patient History and pertinent Patient Medications, Patient Consent, Patient Pregnancy Questionnaire, Nuclear Stress Electrocardiogram Reports
- Interviews patients, measures vital signs such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height and records information in patients’ charts
- Position patients and equipment
- Uses aseptic techniques to start patient IV and flush with saline for patency testing
- Prepares patients for EKG’s with electrodes and shaving/exfoliation as necessary
- Operates electrocardiograph (EKG), treadmill, blood pressure machines, stethoscopes and other equipment to aid in administration of Nuclear Stress Tests
- Monitors patient EKG’s continuously for significant changes and immediately notifies Nuclear Medicine Technologist or Physician with concerns
- Use aseptic techniques to remove patient IV
- Data entry of Nuclear Stress Test information into eCW and creation of reporting for Physicians prior to Physician Interpretation of exam
- Screens telephone calls for Nuclear Medicine Department
- Returns patient phone calls for Nuclear Medicine Department in a timely manner
- Monitors Nuclear Medicine Department schedules and proactively works to fill the schedule
- Contacts patients to confirm appointments, stop medications, food intake and caffeine, and advise of other restrictions 24-48hrs in advance of the scheduled appointment.
- When calling to confirm appointments, notifies patient of the amount they will be expected to pay at appointment.
- Provides detailed notes on patient accounts and charts as appropriate regarding appointment communications, physical conditions, symptoms experienced and patient concerns
- Other related duties may be assigned
Requirements:
- Knowledge in medical terminology and cardiac experience is required
- Ability to effectively communicate and a teamwork mentality is required
- Ability to start IV’s or learn within two weeks of date of hire via provided training
- Ability to recognize significant changes in EKG’s or learn within two weeks of date of hire via provided training
- Punctuality and attendance are a priority, as radiopharmaceutical administration must be done in a timely fashion due to radioactive and biological half-lives
- Travel may be required
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program
