US Heart and Vascular is in search of a Medical Assistant to join our team Memorial Katy Cardiology Associates in Katy, TX.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Familiarizes self with patients’ charts for the day’s visits.
- Ensures that all equipment in exam room is clean and properly set up prior to each patient encounter.
- Under supervision, assists in rendering professional clinical care within the medical practice in support of and as directed by physicians
- Serves as liaison between the patient and physician.
- Places the patients in the examination room ensuring they are as comfortable as possible.
- Takes accurate patient histories and physical exam information when needed.
- Obtains vital signs and chief complaints; documents the information in the patient’s chart.
- Is readily available to the physician. At least one (1) sentence should be written for the HPI during the visit. Also updates patient weight and height.
- Informs patients of steps for procedure scheduling if required and precautions before procedure.
- Assists physicians in office procedures using sterile procedure guidelines to ensure noncontaminating of sterile field. Sets up appropriate surgical instrument tray.
- Screens telephone calls for the physicians. Takes accurate clinical messages within the limits of his/her knowledge and practice policy. Documents telephone calls accurately in our EMR system.
- Takes calls from the pharmacist. Calls in prescriptions and prescription refills accurately to pharmacy as directed by the physicians and documents accurately in the medical record.
- Completes medication prior authorizations.
- Place patient holter monitors and event monitors. Explains policies and procedures to patient. Track monitors on spreadsheet and follows up for the return of monitors.
- Cleans and restocks exam rooms for the next day’s use.
- Maintains lab area and sterilizes equipment.
- Orders clinical supplies as needed.
- Ensures that reports from diagnostic tests are ordered and have been received.
- Prepares all diagnostic reports for availability to physicians. Ensures they are screened and initialed, prior to filing in our EMR.
- Responsible for making sure electronic patient charts are accurate and complete.
- Follow up with patients via telephone or letter regarding missed appointments and/or tests.
- Assist in maintaining all clinical equipment to include sterilizing, if applicable. Evaluates all equipment for damage and reports to the Medical Assistant Supervisor.
- Communicates with patients as needed via phone, fax, mail, and email.
- Maintains strict confidentiality.
- Performs other related clinical duties as required.
- Assists in other areas of the office as needed.
- Prepares patients for EKGs, and performs EKGs as needed.
- Documents in electronic chart in accordance with MACRA.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
- Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant Program (CMA) is required.
- Two years' experience preferred.
- CPR Certification
