US Heart and Vascular
US Heart and Vascular is in need of a temporary full time Medical Assistant to join our team at Houston Cardiovascular Associates in College Station, TX.
Responsibilities:
- Interviews patients to obtain medical history and current medical concerns.
- Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, blood pressure, weight, and height and records information in patients’ charts.
- Preps patient charts for next day clinic
- Reviews testing appointments to confirm there are orders for imaging; if order is missing, submit order with billable diagnosis codes utilizing ICD master list.
- Verifies and inputs patient medications into EMR. Making changes and additions as needed to the medication list.
- Access hospital EMRs as needed.
- Provides H&P and labs to ASC team at least 2 days in advance of case
- Fill out surgery patient sheet to flag cases for ASC.
- Runs “missed appointment” query to identify patients that need to be rescheduled on a weekly basis.
- Responsible for EKG. Entering orders with correct physician and diagnosis.
- Accurate lead placement. (Proficiency Required). Charging equipment after each clinic. Notify the clinical manager if equipment is malfunctioning.
- Operates electrocardiograph (EKG), treadmill, and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic test
- Takes pharmacy phone calls, reviews charts, and calls in prescription refills.
- Receives and returns portal messages in the EMR.
- Return patient calls/tasks, even if only to acknowledge receipt of the voicemail, and that an answer is being sought. Return calls within 2 hours.
- Add follow up documentation in clinical notes when task is completed (ie. Called patient to deliver results, scheduled follow up, etc).
- Schedules patients follow up visits during clinic appt.
- Thoroughly reviews testing instructions with patients at check out.
- May also be responsible for insurance precertification, prior authorization (until fully transitioned to the billing team).
- May be required to move between locations as needed.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements:
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program
- Experience in administration of EKG's is required
- Cardiac Experience is preferred but not required
- High School diploma or Texas accredited GED
