Description

US Heart and Vascular is needing a Financial Counselor to join our team at Orion Medical in Houston, TX

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Serves as the point of contact for all financial responsibility and assistance related questions from patients prior to the service being rendered.

  • Efficiently and accurately verifies and analyzes the benefits of eligibility and coverage using available tools.

  • Determines patients’ financial and insurance status to calculate a good faith estimate based on scheduled services.

  • Educates patients about their financial responsibility before services via phone, email, text, portal messages, or other approved modes of communication.

  • Performs pre-service collections via phone, portal, or in person.

  • Screens self-pay and underinsured patients to identify their ability to pay and implement affordable payment plan agreements for scheduled or prior services rendered.

  • Assesses the current financial situation of patients through the verification of patient insurance benefits; serving as the technical expert in confirming patients' benefit coverage.

  • Initiates the financial screening process as appropriate to evaluate eligibility for assistance programs.

  • Sets up patients with payment plans in practice management system as appropriate.

  • Performs accurate and timely documentation of applicable activities in the EMR billing system.

  • Maintains or exceeds baseline productivity standards established by RCM Shared Services within 90 days of employment and onwards.

  • Is responsible for compliance with all regulatory requirements and/or guidelines. These requirements/guidelines include, but are not limited to: OSHA, HIPAA, Federal Fraud, and Abuse laws.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Familiarity with medical office procedures and billing practices

  • Proficient in clinical documentation review for alignment with insurance authorization requirements

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility.

  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and theories relevant to the assigned functional area.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing in English, to various audiences.

  • Ability to manage time, organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work independently, and as a team, to complete daily activities according to the work schedule.

  • Working knowledge of Office 365 programs such as Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED from accredited institution.

  • One (1) year of experience in the same role, or related field in a healthcare setting
